Making & Celebrating the Future

The first 2291 Festival offers space for colorful ideas, allows for surprising new perspectives, expands our comfort zones and creates momentum for impactful projects. The 2291 Festival is the runway for new topics that deserve more attention – now – to shape the future of Switzerland. It starts right here, today.

Program Highlights

Inspiration for 2291

Living with nature

We are all part of nature yet we are increasingly placing ourselves - behaving as though we are - above nature, manipulating it to our own benefit. As the system moves further and further out of balance, it begins to revolt, to correct itself and to find a new balance. How do we find and define the new path in this transformation? What do we learn from other cultures and previous generations about living in harmony with nature? What does "unity" mean to you? We deepen and develop this focus topic with 4 sub-projects.

What do we learn from grain breeding?

What is the Roadmap to a Circular Society?

Are greenhouses the future of our food?

How does regional, sustainable gastronomy become mainstream?

Cultivate creativity

Let’s explore the true meaning of creativity. It is a vital ingredient in all aspects of life. It is often undervalued and overlooked in today's concept of success. How do we determine the criteria for who and what is considered creative? How do we encourage creativity in childhood? How do we maintain it through adulthood? Do we need quiet time in order to be creative? Are we all just too busy to let our minds wander? We will experience this focus topic hands-on with the new, open 2291 Festival format.

Shaping the homeland

We all view and create a sense of home in a very personal way. Home, or homeland, is the relationship between our personal identity and our surroundings. The core of home is within ourselves, but also extends to our country, our planet and beyond. What does home mean for you and others? Does Switzerland need a democracy update? We are developing this focus topic with 4 sub-projects.

What is your Federal Constitution?

Connexa Helvetica - Do we need a new „story lab“?

Does digitization make people homeless?

How do we create and celebrate democracy?

Investing in people

Money has lost its original purpose as a medium of exchange. Today it primarily measures success. Money is decoupled from what people really need to live a good life. Most money is made from things based on short-term extraction. With benefits for a few and costs for many. Financial market instruments and inheritances create what conventional work can hardly produce: financial wealth. How do we create a stabilizing rhythm instead of unbridled growth? How does less become more attractive, than more? How do we empower people in transformational change? We explore this focus topic with 3 sub-projects.

What type of entrepreneurs does the country need?

How do you become a change maker?

How do for-profit and non-profit come together?

2027, a strong moment together - the Expo#7

The next big gathering of Switzerland is taking shape thanks to the visions and actions of the four project initiatives Muntagna, Nexpo, Svizra27 and X27. At the 2291 Festival, we look back at the year 2023 from the future and ask ourselves: «What did we do right back then to change the zeitgeist of 2023 and shape the Switzerland of the future?» We deepen and develop such thoughts in this thematic room.
